A photographer recently found a community of the Western Bumblebee (Bombus occidentalis) in the Montlake Terrace neighborhood of Seattle. This species has become extremely rare due to the spread of imported bee diseases and has become almost nonexistent in Washington State.

They can be distinguished from other bees by their white butts.
